The Bench

St. Gallen: Neue Kunst Halle

2005

Before the invention of colourful lounges in exhibition spaces, there were benches. One could peacefully ponder while sitting on them. The art space was extended into the dimension of time. It was a distinct activity effecting visual impressions. However, the group show 'The Bench' is not exhibiting benches or places to sit — instead it reflects on the metaphor of contemplatively sitting in an art space. It offers an invitation for visitors to extend or slow down time.
