Willi Dorner: Bodies in Urban Space

Le Mouvement 2: Performing the City

12th Swiss Sculpture Exhibition, Biel/Bienne

29–31 August 2014

The practice of the Austrian, Vienna-based choreographer, curator and video artist Willi Dorner addresses the sculptural qualities of bodies singly and together in everyday settings, both interior and urban, which are temporarily transformed through his interventions. In Bodies in Urban Spaces, Willi Dorner’s dancers map out a route through a zone of a given city, and, breaking apart into small groups, make sculptural pit stops throughout it, in which they acrobatically insert their bodies into the urban fabric. Putting into contrast the supposedly unyielding rigidity of the city with the pliability of the human body, Willi Dorner brings new purpose, not to mention purposeless to urban spaces created with specific purposes in mind.
